Is Whey Protein The Cause For Elevated Liver Enzyme Levels?

I got my routing 6 months checkup and got high Ast SGPT/SGOT .I doesn t drink alcohol and vegetarian by diet .Any recommendation to change my diet or eating habits .As is around 60.I have taken whey protein in last 3 months .Can it be one of the reason for that while doing the GYM.

Hi thanks for asking question.

Here you have elevated liver enzymes as it could be in your case by non alcoholic fatty liver disease.USG useful .

Second hepatitis also has to be ruled out by USG and serum viral marker.

If you have cardiac problem like heart failure then also enzymes elevated .ECG useful.

If muscle injury present then also liver enzymes falsely elevated.

I don't think gym and related protein diet can affect liver.

If liver problem present following reccomendation for you.

-more water
-more fruits
-green leafy veg more
- avoid trans fat like cheese, chips , meat
-omega 3 fatty oil useful like olive oil
-avoid refined sugar and fat
-regular aerobic exercise.

Repeat your liver enzymes after few days as follow up
