Is Warfarin Regularly Prescribed For Rapid Pulse?

88yr old woman (my mom) w/ no history of elevated heart rate goes to doctor, has rapid pulse (I think from anxiety related to doctor visit) so docotr prescribes rat poison (also known as warfarin) and schedules her for regular visits to Coumadin Clinic. Is this normal, or a Medicare hustle? < YYYY@YYYY >

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Heart rate increased may be due to some cardiac problem and not be due to anxiety.
In this type of cardiac problem Warfarin is advised to prevent thrombo-embolism phenomenon.
So regular Coumadin visits advised for follow up and INR checking.
Consult cardiologist and ask regarding her problem.
Ok and take care.
