Is Varied Sizes Of Tonsils Normal?

Is it normal for one tonsil to be a bit larger than the other? I recently was in through planes and airports and came home with a bit of a swollen tonsil. The swelling has gone down some in two days. I don t have any other symptoms though I did start off with a bit of a cough. It felt like I was going through a bit of a cold which I know is common this time of year.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain a mild difference in size of tonsils is not abnormal but in case if you have an inflamed tonsil leading to swelling can be secondary to infection in throat causing Tonsillitis..
It can lead to more infection in one tonsil than the other..
As you also have mild cold and cough it can be due to viral throat infection that is also causing inflamed tonsil..
I would suggest you to do warm saline gargles and steam inhalations..
Take decongestant nasal sprays and oral medication like Phenylephrine..
Chew Vitamin C pellet and suck throat lozenges..
Avoid chilled and spicy foods..
Sip on plenty of warm water..
In case if the symptoms worsen still consult a Genera Physician and he can advise you antibiotic for secondary bacterial infection..
As of now the above explained treatment is appropriate..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards,
Honey Nandwani Arora.
