Is There Any Thing We Can Do To Make My Son Seizure Free?

My son has been diagnosed with epilepsy when he was about 10 yrs old in Jaslok hospital. He is now 25 yrs old and has seizures one in 2-3 years .He is on Valporine chrono 1200 mg per day. Is there any thing we can do to make him seizure free. He is also loosing weight aprox 1 Kg per 6 months,even though he eats well.

Hi,

Thank you for posting your query.

I have noted your son's history and the fact that he gets occasional seizures despite being on sodium valproate.

He should be on appropriate dose of sodium valproate as per his body weight (15-60 mg per kg body weight per day).

If he still gets seizures, an additional drug may be added, such as levetiracetam or lamotrigine or topiramate.

In addition, he should take medicines regularly, sleep well for 7-8 hours per night, avoid stress, eat food on time, etc.

Weight loss is not related to epilepsy or sodium valproate.
