My mother was taken off feeding tube as she had a severe stroke and we were told she would never walk, talk, or swallow again and today she is trying to talk. It has been two weeks since the stroke and 4 days off feeding tube and iv s, is there a chance she could recover?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
After stroke, complete recovery is usually never 100%. It will take around 3-4 months in recovery and it cannot be 100%. Regular physiotherapy is required and change her posture every 2-4 hours to avoid bedsores. Monitor her blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol levels, depending upon the predisposing factors of her stroke. Feed her through feeding tube and keep her head high to avoid aspiration of food into trachea. May she get well soon.
