Is There An Alternative To Surgery As A Treatment For TMJ?

hi,
Well, I have had TMJ for about 20 yrs and my C1 atlas bone has been going out of place for the 10 years. I assume they are related but I don't know how. Ive never had a CT or MRI. I've worked out my neck ,I've rested it and had chiro done on it for 6 years nows. My main question is: Surgery or no surgery are there alternatives.
thanks

Hello and welcome to HCM,
Your history suggests that you are suffering from some abnormality of temporo.mandibular joint (TMJ) , most probably TMJ ankylosis.
Along with this there is dislocation of the C1 vertebra.
Investigations need to be done know the current status of TMJ and C1 vertebra.
Imaging - Ct scan is needed.
You need to consult your orthopedician for prescription of investigations and thus further management.
Whether surgery is required or conservative treatment will be decided after results of the investigations.

Thanks and take care
