Is There A Neccessity For A Vaccination After A Scratch By A Dog With The Application Of Povodine-iodine Liquid?

Dear Doctor, 3 months ago - 4 to 5 dogs were playing at lawn area within my apratment campus. Those dogs are not street dogs or adapoted by someone ; they are just living in that area. When i was try to play with one dog that dog has scratched with its nails on my leg. Just outer layer of my leg skin got injured and very little amount of scratch. I had washed with water and applied Povodine-iodine (betadine) liquid. After 5 to 6 days of time Municipality Corporation team took all the dogs from my apartment. They might have killed the dogs. Now i m worrying that i may get rabbies. I could not even observe the dog for ten days. Please kindly suggest me whether i need to go for any treatment / vaccination or there is no need? I m literally worrying sir

Hi. Welcome to HCM. Rabies is a very deadly disease and one should never neglect to consult a doctor after a dog bite or scratch. Minor scratches without bleeding means u category 2 contact according to WHO. For category 2 immediate vaccination and for category III immediate vaccination and administration of rabies immune globulin are recommended in addition to immediate washing and flushing of all bite wounds and scratches. I advice u to consult a doctor and get vaccinated against rabies. U are not able to find the dog, so consult a doctor as soon as possible. Regards
