Is There A Difference With Efficacy Between The Two Anesthetics?

I am a dental hygienist for a periodontal practice. Our practice recently started using articadent 4%HCL 1:100:000 vs septocaine (articaine 4%HCL 1:100:000) . Is there a difference with efficacy between the two anesthetics? In some cases, I have had to administer an additional .5 carp.

Hello,
There should not be a difference in efficacy between the Dentsply product and the Septodont product. Anesthetics are very sensitive to storage and temperature exposure. I would suspect it is a storage issue prior to arriving in your office. Make sure you purchase products from an authorized dealer. It is best not to order anesthetics in coldest weather months. Record the batch number and check with the manufacturer if there has been any issues with the particular batch. Verify the expiration date. Efficacy possibly lessens as you approach the expiration date. Of course, certain manufactures may vary on quality control and therefore consistancy in the products. Your personal experience and cost per unit should help you decide which product is your preference and best suited to your dental office. I would give the product another chance.
