How Safe Is Taking Clarinex For Allergies?
I have severe allergies, which have been controlled for years with 1 clarinex daily (every day, not just during so-called allergy season). My insurance company just took clarinex off their forumulary. If I wanted to use an OTC, what is the difference between clarinex and claritin (besides the compounds, loratadine and desloratadine)? Is there any difference in efficacy?

Hi! Loratidine (Claritin) is converted to Desloratidine(Clarinex) in the human body. There is no difference in the efficacy of the two products. Clarinex, however, has been approved for both Seasonal and Perennial Allergic Rhinitis while Claritin has
an approval only for the seasonal form. The other difference, as you are well aware ,is that one is an OTC product while the other a prescription one. Hope it helped!
