Is There A Chance Of Surgery For Relapse Of Plural Effusion?

Pleural Effusion
My father had pleural effusion in right lung. Open surgery was done to remove the cyst from the lung just six months ago. Now it was examined by another doctor after six months to see if every thing is ok. It was found that again pleural effusion (liquid accumulated in the vicinity of the operated area.

Is there any chance of any open surgery again or what percentage of possibility for the same could be expected? His age is 70 yrs.

Hi,Dear,Thanks for your query to HCM.
Dear I read your query and reviewed it with context to your query facts.
I understood your health concerns and feel Concerned about them.

Based on the facts of your query, you seem to suffer from-
Recurrent pleural effusion.
With very less information,It's really difficult to assess on the question asked by you, as it needs to be studied with all the X-rays and CT studies with Histopath reports,to know the cause of this effusion.
Surgery for the lung cyst 6 mths back, needs to be reviewed for its cause.
Hydatid / Congenital Sequestration Lung Cysts are the commonest Cysts.
Treatment would be same for the recollection with addition of special medicines in the pleural cavity to control it, before using the
option of Chemical Pleurodesis- with
Bleomycin or methotrexate / or Tetracycline, erythromycin, doxycycline / or talc slurry as sclerosing agents, which is the final option if used step by step in your case.
Surgery thus can be avoided by Chemical pleurodesis
Hope this would help you to solve your health issues in the best way possible.
Welcome for any further query in this regard.

Good Day!!
