Is Surgery Required For The Spots If Having Thyroid Deficiency?
my mother has a thyroid deficiency and on a recent scan they noticed 2 small spots. they say she may need surgery. she is 80 years old. what is this and is surgery the only answer. aparrently spots are very small and she feels fine. please tell me your thoughts. thank you
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted the history related to your Mother who is 80 years old, comes under the category of old age. Also noted that she has thyroid deficiency and I am sure she is taking medicines for the same. Recent scan showing 2 small spots does not entail for surgery unless they are suspicious about the cancer or so. This may also be decided by a PET scan, color doppler studies and obviously by Thyroid scan t, the active nodule be seen as active. Yet the best way is to FNAC under ultrasonography guidance so as not to miss the diagnosis and then only to decide whether surgery is required or not. I hope this answers your queries.
