Is Sinus Drainage With Inflammation Of Throat Due To Bleach Inhalation?

A gallon of bleach spilled in my utility room, after helping to clean it up, I have become very ill. Sinuses draining, throat and nose burning dizzy, coughing up mucous, and head pain. I had open heart sergery 8 months ago and have also noticed return of Afib. Is there a connection w/ the bleach inhalation?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of sinus drainage with inflammation of throat which is due to inhalation of bleach fumes which could be toxic and poisonous. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to eat light and non spicy , eat small meals frequently , take antacid after every meal and take antacid after every meal . Also do warm saline gargles and take steam thrice a day to relieve the congestion. Breath in open air and drink plenty of fluids. If condition does not get well then consult ENT specialist again . Doctor may order CT scan , allergy test and blood test . Doctor may prescribe antibiotics ( amoxicillin or penicillin ) because sometimes residual infection remain even after surgery . Doctor may also refer you to gastroenterologist if vomiting and other symptoms will be there.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
