Is Shoveling In Snow Harmful For A Heart Patient?

My husband had a heart attack one year ago Jan. He had one stent done and 2 others were partially blocked. He exercises 3 days a week and swims a mile in a lap pool 3 alternate days a week. He was also diagnosed with R.A. He now wants to shovel snow. Please help me convince him this is dangerous for him.

Exercise is an important part of treatment for coronary artery disease. Meanwhile, unusual exertions, something that you do not do repeatedly for conditioning, are unwise. Snow shoveling is one of the activities that is part of your routine only if you live near the poles. I agree with your caution. Stay with routine and if you want to vary, do so slowly.
