Is Severe Pain In Hip With Movement A Cause For Concern?

I have pain in my hio which ranges from severe to uncomfortable. Even in my sleep. Some days I cannot walk. The pain started about a month ago and I started a new job a few weeks ago. Sometimes if I turn my foot outward the severity of the pain decreases but does not go away. Should I be worried?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

From your symptoms I think you have compression of sciatic nerve when it passes through sciatic notch of pelvis by a small muscle (Pyriformis) contraction. You should take absolute rest. Avoid painful movement. Consult an orthopedic doctor for physical examination / needful investigations to confirm the cause, followed by specific treatment with medicines and physiotherapy.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Vasudha Jayant Athavale, General & Family Physician
