Is Retacnyl Cream Recommended For Uneven Skin Tone?

Hi, my sister gave me retacnyl cream for my pigmentation and uneven skin tone.. I used it incorrectly day and night for about a week. I stopped using it 3 days ago as my face started feeling like it was on fire. it has now started to flake around my mouth nose and eye area. I stop using my cleanser and am now only using a fragrance free aqueous cream to cleanse even that burns my skin. My face is constantly sore, red, inflamed and flaking. What do I do? How long is this going to last for. I am in corporate sales and need to look presentable at all times as well as make up.. Must I seek a doctor s advice. I can t even sleep it is so painful. Please help me

Hello. Thank you for writing to us at healthcaremagic

The cream that you used contains a topical retinoid.
You have developed irritant dermatitis Or more specifically "Retinoid dermatitis".
Topical retinoids have inherent irritation potential.
They should be used just once daily at night and that too, only for 2 hours or every alternate day initially, till skin gets used to it.
Thereafter, one may use it once daily overnight.
Therefore redness and peeling is because you have used it twice daily for a week.
I suggest you to use a gentle cleanser for face wash. Avoid soaps.
You may use a moderately potent topical steroid e.g fluticasone propionate 0.05% cream, twice daily.
It is a prescription product and therefore I suggest you to talk with your doctor.
This should make it fine over the next 3-5 days.
Steroids are antiinflammatory and would help resolve redness and flaking.
I also suggest you to use a sunscreen during daytime, till the time your skin recovers back to normal because topical retinoids would have made your skin sensitive to sun.

Regards
