Is Recurring Pain In Right Leg Suggestive Of Onset Of Diabetes?

I spent yesterday in ER with accute pain in right leg. The sent me home with Percocet, which helps for about an hour or two. I was dehydrated, low electrolytes and blood sugar was 211. I got about 2 hours sleep for the last to nights. Pain is through the roof. Standing feels better then sitting or standing. Sonogram show clear veins. Could this be onset of diabetes? And can pain be reversed?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted your history of acute pain in right leg, normal ultrasound, dehydration, low electrolytes and high blood sugar.
As per the history you have provided, there looks to be an acute cause like some infection or trauma.
Hence you need the following:
Detailed history.
X-ray of leg/foot whichever has the pain.
Diabetes does not cause acute pain unless there is an active infection.
Get the dehydration and electrolytes corrected well as these may cause deep vein thrombosis.
Further evaluation again by color doppler of lower limb and control of blood sugar, antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medications with painkiller properties may help you further.
If the cause is Neurogenic then gabapentin or such medications may be needed.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
