Is Pregnancy Possible After Having L5 And S1 Discectomy?

I had L5 S1 discectomy mid-Dec 2011 due to cauda equina syndrome. I am so much better already and my back pain is reduced so much I don t need painkillers. I have numbness down my left side buttock to foot, but am coping well and walk slowly with a stick. I am confident to get sensation back.I have a 6 month old son and we always wanted a 2nd child with a small age gap. Will it be possible for me to carry a 2nd baby? Would I need to rest up during pregnancy or could i continue to work?

OBGYN 's  Response
At the outset, let me congratulate on the successful spinal surgery.
Well if you have all your sensations back and you can perform the intercourse, you can have a baby.
During pregnancy, remember, there is a natural backward bending posture. That should not hurt or damage your spines. Still get your surgeon's opinion on that.
To maintain the health of your spines, please consume optimum amount of calcium through your diet and external medicines also. The medicinal Calcium should always be with Vitamin D3.
Depending upon how much your posture is affected due to spinal surgery and the condition for which you have undergone spinal surgery, your passage to allow the foetus pass through it may have got affected. If the cavity is affected, you may have to undergo caesarean section for delivery. After 37 weeks, the obstetrician can opine on it after clinical examination and images of the pelvic cavity with the head of the baby.
I feel you can have a second child.
When? That decision should be taken only after the opinions of your spinal surgeon and the obstetrician.
I hope you got your queries clarified.
