While the vaginal wall has three layers, mucosa, muscularis mucosa and adventitia. The wall of the anus is made of vertical folds that forms columns and are separated by anal sinuses. The smaller folds have anal valves. Since the anatomy is different, the purpose is also different. The vagina is well lubricated and elastic / stretchable while the anus may be dry and thus sexual activity in the anus can injure it, tear the walls resulting in redness and inflammation.
