Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is Persistent Fever With Headache At The Base Of Neck A Cause For Concern?
My son has had a fever of 101 for about 7 days along with a headache at the base of the neck. He has no other symptoms. When given tylenol or IBprofen he is fine and outside playing. When the medicine wears off he is back in bed. He is staying hydrated and eating normally. Should I take him to the doctor just to make sure he s okay or is this just a virus?
Does he have any other symptoms like tooth ache, throat pain, vomiting or any swellings / nodes over the neck? Fever persisting for more than 5 days definitely needs evaluation to find out the cause. If the pain is over neck, this may suggest cervical lymphadenitis. Kindly take him to doctor, as it is already 1 week. You may be asked for blood investigations. Still this can be a viral illness, but we have to be cautious. Till then you can continue Tylenol.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
