Is Pain In Thighs And Buttocks After Popping Sound During Exercising Serious?
Hello. I am 22 years old, 5 4 and 120 pounds. Yesterday I was stretching and did the splits when I felt about 4 or 5 consecutive popping noises from my hip/thigh area. Now I feel pain in my upper thigh/lower buttock area and it hurts to walk. It hurts to bend over, too. I do not see any swelling or bruising. What happened? When will I heal/be able to do the splits again?
That pain you are having appears to be because of stretching,as it is very common to have pain after stretching. As far as popping sound is concerned it occurs either because of formation of gas in the joints or because of avulsion of ligaments and tendons.
In the second case pain is immediate and severe, which is not in your case. Pain due to stretching may take 3-5 days to wean off with rest, you need not to restrict stretching just to limit it. Warm fomentation can help.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Rohan Shanker Tiwari, Orthopedic Surgeon
