Is Normal Birth Possible In Women Having Low Lying Placenta?
Yesterday i have undergone ultrasound,i am in my 5th week of pregnancy. i got a call from ob/gy stating that the placenta is lying near cervix. i need to take certain precautions. after going through google,i came to know that this condition is not curable and delivery has to be done by c-section. Is it true?
Hi, placenta is the organ which anchors to your uterus to provide nutrition via umbilical cord to growing foetus. The position of the placenta will not change once the implantation has taken place. It will grow only in size according to the period of gestation. In your case, what has been told is true. Since placenta is closer to the cervix (placenta praevia), which is the opening through which the foetus has to come out at term, it will obstruct during the delivery. Hence c-section is the best option to opt for. Since the placenta is low lying, you need to take precautions as there are some risks associated with it. Any bleeding from low lying placenta in the second half of the pregnancy can be heavy and a risk to the baby and the mother's health.
