Is Multiple Use Of Octrivin For Blocked Nose, Watery Nose And Sneezing?

i am 34 year old male. from child hood i have problem of nasal congestion, till now i am going through 3 surgeries in my nose 1st when i am 12 years old 2nd when i am 20 years & last when i am 30 year old. but still the problem is not solved. the problem is that when i go to sleep my nose got blocked & i have to breath with mouth. 2nd when i started sneezing my nose got leakage of watery & blocked also. my diagnose it that i have a problem of retinites. this is happen in winter and rain season only in summer my nose is ok i would like to know which medicine will be good to avoid watery nose & blocked nose. is multiple use of octrivin is bad ?

Hi,

From your history it seems you are suffering from Allergic rhinitis also called seasonal rhinitis. You haven't mentioned about type of surgeries you had. I assume that you developed nasal polyp due to recurrent rhinitis, which blocks your nose while sleeping. Best way is to avoid allergens during prone seasons.
I usually discourage the multiple or prolonged use of Otrivin in my patients. When discontinued, it causes rebound rhinitis.
I'll advise you to go for intranasal corticosteroids with oral antihistamines like Levocetrizine. Corticosteroid will not cause rebound and will be effective in polyp, if any. But these medicines should be taken after clinical examination and required investigations by a local ENT surgeon.
