Is Mood Swings And Self Talking Sign Of Schizophrenia?
Hi,
This is about my mother (Age 50+), she is going through paranoid schizophrenia, which we believe by her behavior and local doctor. My parents staying alone in India and I am doing my job outside.
She is talking to herself every time even while doing her work. She does not like others for housekeeping and has false fear from my father and neighbor .That reasons she always talking absurd thing or false imagination and even mood swing. She does not talk to any neighbor and very suspicious about them.
I and my father ask her to consult doctor but she is hesitating to do so. And got angry. After listen her concern if we say it’s false then she got angry and suspicious.
We have spoken to many doctors, but she is reluctant to visit doctor and even does not like to take medicine.
Now question is whether we need to forcefully take her to doctor or admit to hospital. If we do so is there any psychological reaction?
In my opinion, it will be in your mother's best interests if you can forcibly take her to see a doctor and get her treated. She will improve in a few days with treatment and then you will find it easier to manage her.
It is common in paranoid schizophrenia that patient start showing symptoms like suspiciousness against neighbours or even close family members. Self talking or muttering is also common. As schizophrenia is a psychotic disorder patients usually don't accept to consult a psychiatrist. Most of the time they become angry when asked to consult a doctor.
One option is to visit a psychiatrist along with other family members and explain the situation. Give detailed history and he may prescribed some antipsychotic medicines for shore time that can be given by mixing in food or juices. After some time when her condition improves you can take her to doctor for further treatment.
Thanks
