Is Lipase Level Of 53 A Cause For Concern?

Hello I was just wondering what it means that my liver is my mildly echogenic with no focal mass. And my lipase was 100 and now it s down to 53. I also wondered what that meant, because they said my gallbladder might be causing me problems too. I am overweight currently, at 210 pounds, And 49 years old. I had my son 10 years ago well.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Mildly echogenic texture noted in the liver on ultrasound sound can be due to obesity induced changes.

If you reduce your weight and eat healthy diet, it should take care of keeping your liver healthy.

Normal lipase level can range from 0 -160 U/L. Hence, what was 100 and then reduced to 53 can be considered as normal.

Increased lipase indicates pancreatic dysfunction. This can be seen following high fat diet and on consuming alcohol. Kindly stop consuming alcohol and smoking, if you are habituated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
