Is Levothyroxene Right Medication For Drastic Symptoms With History Of Removed Thyroid?

My wife s thyroid was removed in Hong Kong 15 years ago. Now in US for past two years her primary care doctor suggested levothyroxrene (50 mg) but recently her symptoms have been more drastic. Tests of heart, gall bladder and CT scans reveal no abnormalities. Functional medicine (chiropractor) wants her to enter and expensive treatment program aimed at nutritional methods and she cannot make an appointment with an edocreniologist for six months. What should she do?

Sir, I went through your query. You have mentioned that your wife's thyroid gland was removed. If full thyroid gland is removed, patient will turn into "hypothyroid state" which means deficiency of thyroid hormone.

Thyroid gland has a definite function in body, which is performed by production of thyroxine hormone. As you mentioned that thyroid gland was removed, so she was prescribed this thyroxine hormone from outside.

You have not mentioned, Why her thyroid gland was removed?
What are the current symptoms she is suffering from?

I will tell you the common symptoms of deficiency of thyroid hormones:
These are weight gain, swelling on the face and body, Excessive cold sensation, Daytime sleepiness, weakness, Laziness. If your wife is suffering from any of these symptoms, it could be due to inadequate Levothyroxine doses.
If your wife is having these symptoms, I would suggest you undergo thyroid function tests or "Visit your Endocrinologist".

You can get back to me with your thyroid function tests results...

Thanks
