Is Lack Of Side Effects While Taking Methadone Normal?

I take the drug zofran because I get nausea a lot. I do not have cancer so no chemotherapy. I am on a large amount of methadone and other heart medications too. I have been on the methadone for 16 years now so I don t intend to stop taking it, plus I am 70 years old. Should I be worried I have not had any side affects yet. Sometimes I will take them every 8 hours but never more than that. Thank You for your help. Louis

Hello Mr. LOUIS.
As you mentioned that you are taking METHADONE for 16 years and that too 8 hourly . The main cause of concern is that you didn't feel any side effect , that is bothering you.
Methadone is a synthetic morphine substitute and having similar action as that of morphine but less potent and virtually a safe drug.
Now answer of your question .
Methadone has been reported to cause dose dependent lengthening of QTc interval , which may precipitate cardiac arrhyhmia ( but since you are taking it for 16 years so this side effect you didn't feel in the beginning ,when you started this drug , so it will never develop ).
Other side effects are there but the drug is adjusted in your body , so SIDE EFFECTS will NEVER DEVELOP .
Drug dependence is developed and you adjusted and happily accepted it so not a cause of concern .
