Is Joint Pain A Side Effect Of Letrozole?

I have random pain in my right hand. It comes and goes. It seems to locate in my thumb, index finger, and little finger. Not all at the same time. Pain can be acute for an hour or so and begin to diminish. Seems to maybe in the join areas. I can awaken at night with the pain. I am a 69 year old female in good health. Could it be a side effect of the Letrozole I have been taking since November, 2016?

Hello,

Yes, joint pain can be a side effect of Letrozole. Used in the treatment of breast cancer in postmenopausal women, the most common side effects of Letrozole include joint pain, myalgia, fatigue, flushing, increased blood cholesterol levels, osteoporosis and fractures.

I advise you to take over-the-counter pain medication like Ibuprofen or Naproxen for mild to moderate type of joint pain.
Take calcium and vitamin D supplements
Do regular physical activity
Avoid smoking or alcohol if any
To have routine bone density scans for osteoporosis.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
