Is It Safe To Use Steroids For Treating Jaundice?

I am 29 yrs old male. My height is 5' 11'' and weight is 83. I have been diagnosed with jaundice; hepetitis-E and acute liver infection (SGOT/SGPT ranging from 700 to 1500 and now coming down). I was on drips and MVI for 1 week as my apetite had gone down. I had recurring fever too. But now the things have improved and i am recovering gradually. The doctor has prescribed me omnacortil 40 mg twice daily. Is it safe to have steroids? Is it really required in my case or can be avoided?
