Is It Safe To Take Cotrimoxazole For Cough?

hello! may I ask a question regarding my brother with cough for 4 days-productive...I gave him cotrimoxazole syrup when he was having cough last month by the end of the week, given for 5 days two times a day, he was then treated. For now, can I gave him back another cotrimoxazole?

Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Cotrimoxazole is combination of antibiotics.
So it should not be given haphazardly.
Your brother is having recurrent cough problem.
So better to consult doctor and get done basic investigations to rule out common causes for cough.
He needs chest x ray to rule out pneumonia , throat examination to rule out upper respiratory tract infection (URTI) and blood reports like complete blood count.
So better to first diagnose him and than start appropriate treatment.
Hope I have solved your query.
Wishing good health to your brother. Thanks.
