Is It Safe To Increase The Dosage Of Lasix For Reducing Swelling In Feet With A History Of Heart Failure And Atrial Fibrillation?

95 y.o. family member under Hospice care. Significant swelling and blood pooling in feet, cool temp. Not end stage yet - still eating and walking to bathroom. Hospice recommending increase of Lasix dose to 40 mg in am and 40 mg at noon (has been on Lasix for many years of 40 mg/daily). Hx of heart failure and atrial fib. Concern re: blood pressure normally 140/90 now 100/60. Is it safe to try increase Lasix with goal to reduce swelling in feet?

Hi, thank you for asking Healthcare Magic.
I have gone your query and understood your concerns
If 40 mg of Lasilix per day do not produce satisfactory results, the dosage can be increased but without going beyond 600 mg per day. If I were his treating doctor, I would add an angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor like Captopril.

I hope that answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. We will be delighted to answer more questions from you.
I wish him/her good health
