Hi,, Utovlan contains Norethisterone, which helps in the regularization of the menstrual cycles and in decreasing heavy bleeding. This can be used for contraceptive purpose sometimes when used continuously for around 21 days without missing the tablet or altering the time of intake. As you missed few tablets in last few days, that might have led to a withdrawal effect of progesterone on uterine endometrium and bleeding might have started. Though you had unprotected intercourse, as the bleeding has started now, the possibility of pregnancy is less. If the bleeding continues, you may have to restart the second cycle of Utovlan with your gynecologist s advice. To rule out other factors of heavy bleeding, better to go for investigations like ultrasound, complete blood picture, thyroid profile, etc. With this work-up the possible cause of your problem can be identified and treatment can be taken accordingly.
