Is It Possible To Choke To Death From A Liquid?

Hi, Dr. Is it possible to choke to death from a liquid? I was about to pass out! I quickly took a sip of my cousins drink and as he ran towards me to get it, he slipped. I wanted to burst out laughing, and it was one of those laughs that you don't make any sound. I also wanted to spit out the drink but somehow I tried stopping myself? Well, I realized, I couldn't swallow, nor could I spit it out. At that point, I couldn't breathe. I wasn't making any noise, as I couldn't. I felt weak, and was about to pass out. I started to pound on my chest and started to kind of cough but really hard. No milk came out, so I must have swallowed it but it felt as though, something was blocking my passage still. Now my chest hurts when I breathe in.

The death from choaking from anything is possible but considering the incidance you narrated the chances of that fluid being get aspirated are maximal. As you are better than previous now not to worry about the sudden death due to choakin as ostruction is already gone away.
The concern for now is that if the fluid might have get aspirated the chances of the same are high you need to be careful & it at all any of the symptoms such as difficulty in breathing or persistant cough, fever, breathlessness occurs you should immidiatly report to doctor. Because this symptoms will suggest the aspiration pnuemonia.

It is advisable to take the prophylactic antibiotics to prevent the aspiration pnuemonia such as Levofloxacine 500 mg once a day after food for 5 days along with the antacids such as omeprazole 20 mg two times a day before food .
