Is It Normal To Have Two Periods In A Month?

HI Doc

I just gave birth via C section last Sept 2013. And had my first period after delivery last January 5,2014 which lasted for 4days. And then after 20days I had my period again. It lasted for 1 week. And just yesterday feb.10 i had my period again. So based on my calculation, I am having periods twice a month. Is it normal?

Hi and thanks for using HCM,

I understand that you are having frequent periods since January.
The normal cycle duration ranges from 21 days to 45 days. Meaning that is periods occur more frequently that 21 days investigations are needed.

You seem to be just at the borderline of the 21 day cutoff limit. The first few cycles after delivery may be irregular as it takes a little while for the normal rhythm to be established. You have also not mentioned any birth control so I assume you are using none.

If the periods continue to come frequently, get an ultrasound done to look for the cause. You may also need a gynec examination to look for local causes like polyps and cervical fibroids. Hormonal evaluation may be needed if the above two are inconclusive.

Meanwhile take tranexamic acid tablets to control heavy bleeding.

Hope I was able to help you. Thanks for using Health Care Magic.
I would be happy to answer any further queries.
Have a nice day.
