I've had the mirena for about 2 year. I spotted for A month or two after insertion and haven't had a period since. Just this morning, I started bleeding bright red blood. And for about the past week, I've had gross, brown discharge along with it. Is this normal?
While being and Mirena which is a hormone containing intrauterine device, there is some possibility for menstrual irregularity due to fluctuations in the reproductive hormonal levels. Sometimes absence of periods can be seen and sometimes it may lead to inter-menstrual spotting also. Rarely, displacement of the Mirena or pelvic infection due to this intrauterine device can lead to symptoms like the spotting or brownish discharge, etc.
So, if the irregularity persists, better to get evaluated once. Please consult your gynecologist, get examined and undergo an ultrasound. With this work up the position of the Mirena can be confirmed and any possibility of pelvic infection can be ruled out.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
