Is It Necessary To Take Rabipur Every Time When A Dog Bites?

Dr,i had taken rabipur injection on 5 / 9 /2013 , four dose shot , the last dose was on 13 /10 /2013 , i was bitten by my pet dog , he is vaccinated on july 2013 , again today ie on 14/02/2014 i was bitten by him , should i have to take the anti rabipur injection again , what is the validity period for this injection?, waiting for your reply sir.

Hi, I had gone through your question and understand your concerns.

No , it you need not take full series , previously vaccinated individuals need to take only 2 shots at 0 and 3rd day as immunity from previous immunisation is still there , two doses will be sufficient to protect you .you also need to clean the wound properly and wound care also needs to be done. Regarding validity best is to have an antibody titre , if not possible if vaccinated in last 5 years you need only 2 doses regardless of duration of vaccination.
