Is It Effective To Use Cortisone/calamine For Blister Due To Spider Bite?

I think that I may have a spider bite. It has been bothering me for a day or two and it is now round and red with a blister in the center. It seems swollen. I have been cleansing it and applying cortisone cream and/or calamine lotion. Should I now be using warm compresses?

Dermatologist 's  Response
Hello,

As per your case history of spider bite, my treatment advice is:

1. Don't scratch the lesion as it may worsen the condition.
2. Apply a mild antibiotic cream like Fusiderm cream twice daily on it. Calamine and cortisone are not much effective.
3. Take an NSAID drug like Ibuprofen for 5 to 7 days.
4. Other treatment options are oral antibiotics, oral steroid taken only after consulting a dermatologist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Harshit Bhachech
