Is Iritis Flair Up In Eyes Caused By Rheumatoid Arthritis?
I started out with iritis flair ups in both eyes due to rheumatoid arthritis several times this last year. I have been put on prednisone for this but can't stay on it. Also I have been using continually throughout the day eye lubricating drops (which don't help at all). My eyes are slightly red and constantly dripping with water or covered in a white film. In the mornings they are gooey and crusty. My sight is never clear. It's filmy. Pink eye has been ruled out. I am being treated by a Rheumotologist as well as an ophthamologist. I am currently taking Humira and Azathioprine (Imuran). Was on Methotrexate but my liver count became high. Any suggestions???? Also, sometimes my eyes ach slightly.
I reviewed your history. It seems from the history that you are having iritis. Iritis is usually associated with autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis. This requires treatment by the use of steroids. Along with the treatment of iritis by steroids, treatment of the underlying rheumatoid arthritis is also necessary.
Hence I advice you to consult your ophthalmologist for examination for confirmation of diagnosis and treatment accordingly.
Thank you With regards
