Is Intake Of Eltroxin During Pregnancy Concerning?
My wife is 10 weeks pregnant and she has high TSH (6.56) which is detected on 10th week of pregnancy. Previously she had no history of any thyroid problems. Now she is being prescribed eltroxin 50mcg before breakfast. Since she is taking the medicine from 10th week, will there be any complications on the baby?

Hi, I understand your concern. - Thyroid hormone is essential for physical & intellectual development of foetus.High TSH indicates thyroid hormone deficiency.some how risk of fetal underdevelopment due to thyroid deficiency can be corrected by thyroid hormone supplimentation - So you were actually lucky to know about thyroid deficiency at early stage of fetal development. Now that your wife gets hormone replaced, baby will grow normal. - Some how, you may need to review TSH level in pregnancy & adjust dose of Eltroxin as per your treating doctor's advice. Thanks. .
