Is Hip Replacement Surgery At Oldage Recommended For Pain Management?

My father is in need of a total hip replacement. The pain is great enough that pain meds do not seem to help.

He is 77 years old and has been a heavy smoker since his teens. He is on oxygen at night.

Do you believe he is a canidate for surgery?

What should we be aware of?

What do we need to tell the Surgeon and Anesthesiaologist?
