Is High Pulse Pressure Of 50 High?

Hi I have a question of Pulse Pressure. I am age 53, so far very active and fit. My blood pressure often measures 115/60. There were times 107/55 or 120/60. My resting heart rate is often around 55/minute. My concern is the pulse pressure, my reading seems greater than 50. Is this a potential problem? Thank you! Julia

Hi Julia

After going through the medical details provided by you i understand your concern and i would like to tell you that the ideal pulse pressure is upto 40 mmHg and the normal range is between 40 - 60 mmHg.

If pulse pressure constantly stays above 60 then it is a matter of concern as it will predispose to cardiovascular illness and it could be due to many reasons like Age related degenerative changes in the aorta, Atherosclerosis, Anemia, Aortic dissection etc which if present causes their own symptoms which is not a case with you.

So dont worry and just keep maintain healthy lifestyle habits.

I wish you Good Health
