Is Hepatitis B Curable?

Hi I was diagnosed with hepatitis b about 7months ago. Some people say it can disappear within few months while some said it doesn t disappear. What is you opinion about this. I have been doing liver enzymes test and the results are in normal ranges. Is this result a yardstick that the hepatitis has disappeared?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi & Welcome to HCM.
I can understand your concern.
Incomplete data like age, gender, details of the lab investigations like liver function tests, serological tests, or ultrasound scan not mentioned.

If you've been diagnosed with hepatitis B infection, the treatment can reduce the risk of liver disease and prevent you from passing the infection to others.

In general, the treatment for acute hepatitis B infection is self limited & will go away on its own — you may not need treatment. At the most what you need is just take rest and adequate nutrition and fluids while your body fights the infection.
However, if the serological tests confirm the diagnosis of chronic hepatitis B infection then you will need to take
1. Antiviral medications like Entecavir or Tenofovir or Lamivudine which can help fight the virus and slow its ability to damage your liver and
2. Pegylated Interferon alfa-2a which works by reducing the amount of hepatitis virus in the body. It also helps the immune system fight the virus.

Hope the information given above would be useful to you.
