Is Head Tonsure Advisable For A Person With Seborrheic Dermatitis?

Hi, I have seborrheic dermatitis on my scalp. I haven't been diagnosed professionally, but I'm certain that is what it is. I use a variety oils as well as mediated shampoos to control it. My question to you, is do you think its best to keep my head shaved? I am a female, and my hair is thick and curly. I usually keep it braided and wear hair extensions. But I am wondering if that would be a better route to go...

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain Seborrheic Dermatitis commonly known as Dandruff can occur due to causes like Fungal infection, genetics, sudden change in climatic conditions etc..
It can be however corrected by application of shampoo containing Ketoconazole, coal tar, salicylic acid, Zinc, selenium , sulfide..
Massage the scalp with steroid lotion..
In case if the condition is severe and you have very thick hairs, shaving of the scalp can help in easing the application of the medications as well as ease in cleaning the scalp..
But I would suggest you to first consult a Dermatologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and meditation should be tried before proceeding for shaving off the hairs..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
