Is Hair Fall A Side Effect Of Benadryl Intake?

A little over a week ago I noticed that my hair suddenly began thinning very noticeably. I ve always had thick hair and all of a sudden I could see my scalp! The only difference in my life was the week before I began taking Benadryl every night for allergies, something I ve never done before. Could this be the cause of my hair loss? If I quit taking it will my hair grow back?

Hi Dear ,

As per your query you have sudden thinning of hair and you are wondering if it is happening due to benadryl . Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like allergic reaction , fungal infection and stress . Benadryl has side effects like Sedation, sleepiness, dizziness, disturbed coordination, epigastric distress and thickening of bronchial secretions , but it is not known to cause hair fall or hair thinning . I would suggest you to main proper hygiene of your scalp and apply vitamin E oily daily after washing scalp . Consult dermatologist for proper examination . Doctor may prescribe anti fungal orally or shampoo . Doctor may also prescribe anti allergic or supplements .
