Is Droop One Side Of Mouth A Symbol Of Stroke?

I suspect my mother has had mini type of stroke, but not sure. Has had a slight droop one side of mouth, hand does not appear as well co-ordinated, and was a bit disorientated and vulnerable for a few days. She does not believe it happened, and is now lucid, and more confident, almost back to normal? Does this sound like it could be a wee stroke? (She is a smoker who is medicated for cholesterol, and high blood pressure, aged 72 widow)

I believe that if these symptoms have occurred only within the past 24-48 hrs. that it is well worth the trouble and effort to get her seen at an ER for a stroke workup which should include an MRI/MRA of the head and neck with diffusion/perfusion weighted protocols. If your description of the focal signs of facial droop and incoordination of the hand as well as disorientation are accurate then, it would be stroke until proven otherwise. The risk is that she may have another one in the next 30 days if you don't ferret this incident out and try to figure out a good preventative strategy to block the next one.

Good luck.

If you've found this information helpful please give a WEE bit of written feedback as well as STAR RATING! Thanks bunches and off you go to a place with some good high tech equipment and a good neurologist on call.
