Is Cortisone Sufficient To Heal Pain Caused By Dog Bite And The Bumps Around It?

Hello - I had a dog bite on the palm of my hand - it needed no stiches and has healed with a little hard lump - sometimes painful if I put alot of pressure on it. I was told to see a hand specialist and they can take care of it by giving me a cortizone shot. My question to you is does the cortizone only aliviate the pain or does it also take care of making the bump go away? Thanks very much. Lisa

Hello,
Thank you for asking this question. you are asking the role of cortisone in reducing the swelling apart from reliving the pain.
As it is a dog bite and a lacerated wound it is a cat III bite, which should not be sutured. rightly they have done this.
Cortisone will help to reduce the swelling, but it is a gradual process which requires time for shrinking of the swelling.
