Is Cd4 Treatment Advisable When Positive With HIV?
Hello dear Doctors. I am male and 33 years of age. Three years ago I won DV lottery. But unfortunately when I took the medical test I was found to be hiv positive. At first my cd4 count was 170. But after about a year it has grown to 256. I was taking only the 'Bactrim'. My physicians are advising me to start taking the cd4 treatment. But I am afraid of it because of the strict time for taking the medicine. This week I went to the health office and they have tested my cd4 and found it to be 112 only. They are strongly advising me to start the medicine. What shall I do?
Hi, Welcome to HCM. As per present strategies, ART to be started when the CD4 Count goes below 500. Your CD4 count was already went down below 150. You must had started well earlier and should not have allowed the CD4 Count to fall below 350. It is not big concern about timings of drug dosage. Slight deviation up to half to one hour in taking this drug is not a big issue compared to defer from treatment . Dr S.Murugan
