Is Bloody Vaginal Discharge With Clump Of Skin Post Mirena Insertion A Cause For Concern?

Hello, I had Mirena put in yesterday. Today I had a clump of skin that was expelled from my body with bloody discharge as well. The skin kinda looked like skin from the inside of my cheek but white/greyish in color. I don t hurt anymore than I did before, in fact I feel better. Is this bad?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
Mirena is a type of long-acting, reversible birth control called a hormonal intrauterine device (IUD) which contains levonorgesterel – a progestin birth control hormone. It slowly releases a small amount into the uterus over time.
Some of the side effects noted commonly include: Acne, Weight change, Nausea, Mood changes, Breast tenderness, Vaginal discharge and abnormal bleeding patterns.
Kindly wait and see if the symptoms you have mentioned stop as it was inserted recently. In case if it doesn't or you have some other problems associated, kindly consult your doctor for help.
All the best.
