Is An Antibiotic Vaginal Cream Efficient In Treatment Of Vaginal Infection?

Hi, my wife was told she had a bacterial infection by our primary care physician over a week ago. She was prescribed an antibiotic vaginal cream. She didn't start taking it right away, and this past Sunday(4 days ago), she inadvertently left a tampon in and we noticed a distinct odor yesterday and we weren't sure why after she just started taking the cream that she was having this odor. This morning with a difficult bowel movement, the Sunday tampon came out(the source of the smell). The question is now that she has the anti-biotic cream that was prescibed prior to her leaving the tampon in 4 days ago, will this be sufficient to take for what is probably a much larger infection now that she left it in for 4 days?

Hi,
Thanks for consulting us.
If she has no sign of a systemic illness like fever or lower abdominal pain, she may try that antibiotic cream prescribed to her.
However, if she is unwell & has any sign of infection beyond her vagina she should better consult a Gynecologist on an urgent basis.
best regards.
