Is A Swollen And Pink Septate Hymen Post-breakage A Cause For Concern?

I recently broke my septate hymen, i’ve been sexually active for two years and it’s always just been stretched on one side but the most recent time i had sex, my boyfriend slipped and broke it on the way in. it hurt a lot and bled a lot, and now it’s swollen, pink and hard. it’s also long, and kind of dangles? i’m not sure what to do or if it’s infected, and can’t really afford to see a doctor. any advice?

Hello,

Often, no treatment is required as the hymen is commonly torn during sexual intercourse. It heals by itself. However, in case of swelling, soreness, pain, inflammation, etc., you are suggested to take Naproxen when required after food. It will help to reduce inflammation and pain. Get clinically examined by a gynecologist, since a part of the torn hymen is hanging / dangling, you may need to get it removed.

A minor surgical procedure can be used to remove the extra tissue if needed. Hymenectomy removes extra hymenal tissue and is performed under general anesthesia. Normal activities can be resumed within a few days. Sexual activity can resume within two to four weeks. A course of antibiotics is administered so that the wound heals faster and avoids infection. You will be given pain killers. Take care of your hygiene. Avoid sexual intercourse for a few days till you heal.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
