Is A Persistent Cough And Slight Temperature Indicative Of A Virus?

I have had a cough (non productive) for 4 days. I started running a fever too yesterday. It is staying right around 100. I did NOT get a flu shot this year. I usually do. How long before I should see a doctor? Or is it a virus and therefore nothing they can do?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Thank you for your query.
*do you have any other symptoms like cold, running nose, throat pain, headaches, breath difficulty?
*is your cough productive? If so, what colour is it?

I suggest that you wait for 3 more days and see if the fever settles by itself.
If you develop higher fever, throat pain or feel fatigued, see a doctor to check for bacterial infections.
Else just stay well hydrated and rested.
Avoid cold drinks and foods.
Steam inhalations with Vicks vapor rub or few drops of eucalyptus oil will help relieve cough and congestion.

Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.
Wish you good health
